Glen Macdonald, President

Glen Macdonald is president of the Wealth & Giving Forum. He leads a team of professionals dedicated to developing innovative programs and partnerships to fulfill the organization's mission to promote philanthropy among families of means. Mr. Macdonald has presented his perspective on philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, and the responsible deployment of capital at various conferences, including the Forum 2000 Conference in Prague in October 2006, Renaissance Weekend in Monterey, California, in September 2007, and the Forbes Family Business Conference in October 2007.

Mr. Macdonald is currently a principal at CMS Companies, a private-equity firm based in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. He spent most of his private-sector career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a partner in the management-consulting unit's telecommunications and media practice. He advised established companies and new ventures on business strategy, marketing and sales, restructurings, process improvement, and financial management. Mr. Macdonald was also formerly a vice president at Adventis Corporation, a strategy consultancy, where he served as the executive in charge of the firm's New York office. His views on the industry have appeared in a Wall Street Journal article and in interviews with the New York Times, the Financial Times, the Chicago Tribune, and various industry journals.

Before his career in industry, Mr. Macdonald was a lecturer in international politics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and a special advisor to UNESCO in Paris on technology policies in developing economies.

Mr. Macdonald has been a recipient of several fellowships, including a Ford Foundation Fellowship at the Harvard Center for International Affairs, the French Government government's Chateaubriand Fellowship, a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct field research in Mexico, and the Rotary Foundation Graduate Fellowship to study at the University of Paris. His research and writings have focused primarily on economic development, foreign investment in developing economies, diplomacy, conflict resolution, and the role of politics in the formation of common markets.

Mr. Macdonald is a board member and has served as chairman, from 1990 to 1995, of the Class of 1983 Educational Endowment Program at UNC. He is a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society and has been active in fund-raising initiatives at his alma mater and in his local community.

He received his B.A. with highest honors in political science and economics in 1978 and his MA in international relations in 1983, both from UNC. Mr. Macdonald enjoys tennis, skiing, traveling, and wine collecting. He resides with his wife, Sylvie, and their three children in Westfield, New Jersey.
