Wealth & Giving Forum enables collaboration that transforms thousands of lives in Ethiopia.
At our May 20 event, Philip Berber, co-chair of A Glimmer of Hope, shared his views on the power of convening and collaboration, citing his foundations partnership with charity: water. This collaboration was forged at the Wealth & Giving Forum in July 2007 when Eric Schmidhauser of A Glimmer of Hope met Scott Harrison, a social entrepreneur and charity:water's founder. Since that first meeting, charity: water has raised and donated more than $4.8 million through A Glimmer of Hope, which totals 35% of all its projects around the world. In three years, charity: water has funded more than 1,000 water and sanitation projects in Ethiopia through A Glimmer of Hope. As a result, the lives of more than 395,000 people living in some of the poorest communities on earth have been transformed. Watch the video to learn more about this high-touch and impactful collaboration.
Philip has been a member of the W&GF community since he spoke at our inaugural gathering in October 2004. Philip and his wife Donna of Austin Texas were recently recognized as being among “The 25 Best Givers” in the world by Barron’s Magazine, placing sixth on the list based on their impact and effectiveness. A Glimmer of Hope provides clean water, schools, health clinics and micro-finance loans. In 10 years, Glimmer has completed more than 4,000 projects and improved 2.5 million lives.
