Inspiration, Innovation and Insights on philanthropy and socially responsible investing.

With great wealth comes great responsibility. Individuals and families of means have an unprecedented opportunity to address pressing needs at home and abroad. We are living in a time of great affluence and great need – when there is a seismic shift in the level and potential for the positive effect of great wealth.

In the next 50 years, an unprecedented transfer of wealth will occur in the United States. If wealth grows at the same rate annually in the first half of this century as it did in the past 50 years, this inter-generational transfer will likely exceed over $100 trillion. This wealth will be passed on to heirs, charity, and government.

At the same time, more people, and at a younger age, will achieve financial independence during their lifetime – and many of them are asking how to allocate their wealth intelligently. In this context, accumulating wealth has ceased to be the central and only measure of success.

For the first time in history, the most compelling economic question for a substantial portion of a nation's population is how to use their wealth as a tool to serve the needs of others. Should individuals with great capacity so choose, they can enjoy the appealing and fulfilling prospect of deploying substantial resources to address the world's most pressing needs.

Indeed, as individual financial capacity increases, so too does the personal opportunity and responsibility to contribute to the betterment of our social, environmental and cultural conditions – for us today and for future generations.

Wealth & Giving Forum encourages greater and more effective deployment of capital in philanthropic and socially-oriented investment vehicles among individuals and families of means to create positive social outcomes and to build the community of philanthropic change-makers.

Wealth & Giving Forum ("W&GF" or "The Forum") was founded in 2003 to promote greater generosity among individuals and families of significant means with respect to their philanthropy and socially responsible investing. Through its annual gatherings, topical symposia and communiqués, the Forum offers members of its community thoughtful peer-to-peer exchanges of ideas and practices on aligning wealth allocation with one’s values.

The Forum is directed by wealth holders who want to discern for themselves and help inspire others about the best way to deploy their resources. It provides a unique opportunity for an exchange of ideas among families who are dedicated to making intelligent decisions about their philanthropy. It is for experienced donors who seek to accelerate and optimize their own giving and emerging donors who wish to embark on the noble journey of using their wealth to make a difference.
